
MSU Men?s Tennis Concludes Pre-Qualifying Play At All-American

TULSA, Okla. – Several Bulldogs fell just short of advancing to qualifying play on Sunday at the ITA All-American Championships, as the Mississippi State men's tennis squad closed out pre-qualifying action.
MSU sophomore Rishab Agarwal earned a victory to start off, but lost in a three-set battle in his fourth-round match. Agarwal downed Northwestern's Konrad Zieba, the tournament's 26th seed, 6-4, 6-4, but fell to George Washington's fifth-seeded Danil Zelenkov 4-6, 7-6(8), 6-4 in a tough three-set battle to end his run in Tulsa.
Newcomer Mate Cutura battled with Ohio State's Mikael Torpegaard, also in three sets, but fell in the third round, 1-6, 6-3, 6-2.
In singles consolation play, Bullog Robin Haden faced Hawaii's Carter Lam, dropping his match in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4.
With the conclusion of pre-qualifying action, the Bulldogs will now prepare for the qualifying rounds. Freshman Julian Cash will represent MSU in singles as well as doubles, where he will team up with Florian Lakat. Qualifying play is set to begin Monday.
Following the conclusion on qualifying play, the main draw will get underway this Thursday, Oct. 2. Cash and Lakat, will have the opportunity to play their way into main draw action. Lakat, who is ranked 36th nationally, has already earned a selection into the main bracket in singles play.
