Peng, Baik Lead Women?s Golf To Third Place At Mason Rudolph

FRANKLIN, Tenn. – Ginger Brown-Lemm wanted to see her Mississippi State women's golf team improve from tournament to tournament, and the squad did just that Sunday as they followed a fourth-place finish at last week's Cougar Classic with a third-place card at the prestigious Mason Rudolph Championship in Franklin, Tenn.
The sub-par weather conditions in Charleston, S.C., last week benefitted the team Sunday as they overcame gusty wind and rain to post a 296, the third-lowest round of the day. State finished with a 16-over 880 to finish behind champion and host Vanderbilt and LSU.
The Commodores' Jenny Hahn claimed the individual crown with a 5-under-par 211.
“Today's conditions were the toughest of the tournament. With gusty winds and rain on the last three holes, our girls stuck to their process and focused on what they could control.” Brown-Lemm said. “Finishing third at this prestigious event is continuing our desire to be a nationally-competitive program.
“Our sophomores stepped up when they were needed most and that says a lot about our bright future. Finishing fourth at the Cougar Classic and third at the Mason Rudolph is a wonderful way to begin our fall season. Now we are able to get home, get some rest, catch up on school work and get ready for the Schooner Fall Classic in two weeks.”
One of the sophomores to step up Sunday was Ji Eun Baik, who fired her lowest round of the tournament, a even-par 72, to tie for ninth at 3-over 219.
After finishing seventh last week, fellow sophomore Jessica Peng tied for sixth Sunday, finshing with a 1-over 217 after carding a 4-over 76 for her final round at the Legends Club.
Senior Rica Tse also notched a Top-20 finish, tying for 16th with a 6-over 222 after replicating her first round with a 75 in the difficult weather conditions.
After struggling in her opening two rounds, senior Ally McDonald carded a 1-over 73 to finish the tournament tied for 26th with an 8-over 224.
Logan Chaney rounded out the tournament tied for 51st with a 14-over 230 after shooting an 80 on Sunday.
The Bulldogs take a break from competition before heading to Norman, Okla., to compete in the Schooner Fall Classic Oct. 4-6.
