Day 1 Of NCAA East Prelims A Success For MSU
May 30, 2014 | Track & Field
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Two weeks ago, Brandon McBride won the 800-meter run at the SEC Championships. Now, he's just one step away from competing for the national title.
Thursday at Hodges Stadium for Day 1 of the NCAA East Preliminary at North Florida, the sophomore from Windsor, Ontario, ran 1:48.31, the fifth fasted time of the day, to advance to Friday's semis, where the top 12 advance to Eugene, Ore., next month.
But McBride wasn't the only Mississippi State standout enjoying success. So did Scottie Hearn and Rhianwedd Price.
Price placed 2nd in the 1,500 meters with a personal-best time of 4:16.13 to punch her ticket to Saturday's semifinals, while Hearn finished 11th in the 400-meter hurdles at 51.44 to join Friday's semifinals field.
“They came here with the mindset to advance, and that's what they done,” MSU coach Steve Dudley said. “They're not satisfied, because their ultimate goal is nationals. That's what they are fighting for now.”
In addition to Friday's semis, also competing for the Bulldogs are Ste'yce McNeil and Keisha Wallace in the 100-meter hurdles and Cornelia Griesche, Emma Neigel and Lisa Ziegler in the 3000-meter steeplechase.
