May 31, 2014 | Track & Field
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – It's a goal that's always the same each year — get to the nationals. Friday, Mississippi State had three track and field athletes do just that.
On Day 2 of the NCAA East Preliminary at North Florida that was hampered by weather delays, Cornelia Griesche, Brandon McBride and Scottie Hearn advanced to next month's nationals in Oregon.
McBride, a junior from Canada, posted the top time in the 800-meter run at 1:46.80, while Hearn placed 7th in the 400-meter hurdles at 50.81. Then in the final event of the night, Griesche placed 11th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:08.87.
“They came here with the right mindset, and it paid off,” MSU coach Steve Dudley said. “I couldn't be more proud for them.”
The same can be said for Keisha Wallace.
In the 100-meter hurdles, the senior from Jamaica finished 10th with a time of 13.25 to advance to Saturday's semifinal round.
Also Saturday, Rhianwedd Price will be competing in the 1,500-meter run, while Damian Roszko will be representing MSU in the 5000 meters. In addition, Tautvydas Kieras will be participating in the discus and Ebony Brinker in the triple jump.
