Patrasc Falls in First Round of NCAA Singles Championship

ATHENS, Ga. – After being selected to compete in her first NCAA Singles Championship, Mississippi State sophomore Georgiana Patrasc suffered an early exit from the postseason Wednesday afternoon.
Ranked 49th nationally, Patrasc fell 6-1, 6-1 in the first round to Stanford's 21st-ranked Carol Zhao. The setback officially concluded the 2013-14 MSU women's tennis campaign.
A first-team, All-SEC selection in 2014, Patrasc concluded her second year in Starkville with a 23-10 overall mark, the best single season win total in singles of any MSU women's tennis player since the 2004-05 season, when three different Bulldogs finished with 23 wins or more. She was also named Southern Region Player to Watch by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
"She had a tough day today," said head coach Daryl Greenan. “She let too many opportunities slip by and her opponent was just too strong in the end. I am proud of her overall accomplishments on the court this year. If things go well, she will have more opportunities to compete at national events over the next couple of years.”
