Madison, Miss. – A wet and dreary day was the setting for the BancorpSouth Intercollegiate, as Mississippi State shot 9-over-par before play was suspended late Monday afternoon.
The Bulldogs are only eight shots off the tournament lead heading into Tuesday's final round, with Austin Peay and Southern Miss tied for the lead at 1-over-par.
Middle Tennessee's Brett Patterson is in first after firing off a 3-under-par through 12 holes.
“We dug ourselves a little bit of a hole today with several double bogeys,” Coach Clay Homan said. “It's nothing we can't rally back from though. We lack about four holes from finishing the first round, so it's important that we come out and finish strong. Tomorrow the weather is going to be extremely challenging with cold temperatures and high winds, but it's exactly the kind of day we can use to get ourselves back in position.”
Senior Chad Ramey shot even through 12 holes on Monday, finishing the day tied for eighth overall. Ramey will be in contention for the second win of his career as the senior is only three shots off Patterson's pace.
The trio of Joe Sakulpolphaisan, Ben Wood and Axel Boasson shot 3-over-par on Monday, tying for 41st overall in the process.
In his first event since capturing co-medalist, senior Barrett Edens finished his day tied for 54th overall after shooting 4-over-par through 14 holes.
Heavy rains postponed the opening round until noon on Monday, forcing tournament officials to shorten the Intercollegiate into 36 holes. The Bulldogs will conclude round one at 8:30 a.m. tomorrow morning, with round two beginning immediately after.
