Cash, Lakat Move Into Semifinals At USTA/ITA Southern Regionals

AUBURN, Ala. – Knocking off two more opponents, the Mississippi State men's tennis duo of Julian Cash and Florian Lakat advanced to the semifinals of doubles play on Saturday at the USTA/ITA Southern Regional Championships.
The MSU tandem received a double dose of the LSU Tigers on the day, defeating both teams to stand one win away from the championship match. Cash and Lakat downed Justin Butsch and Chris Simpson 8-4 to advance to quarterfinal action. They then punched their ticket to the semis with an 8-7(10) victory against the Tigers' Boris Arias and Jordan Daigle.
Cash and Lakat will now face Ole Miss' William Kallberg and Gustav Hansson for the right to play for the doubles title on Monday. The match between the in-state rivals is set to begin at 1 p.m. CT, on Sunday.
Two more MSU doubles teams were in round of 16 action on Saturday, with one duo joining Cash and Lakat in the quarterfinals. State's Mate Cutura and Tassilo Schmid defeated Louisiana's Jake Wynan and Jarred Wynan 8-6. However, the Bulldog team would fall in the quarters, an 8-5 decision to No. 14 and the tournament's No. 1 seeded LSU team of Eric Perez and Tam Trinh.
MSU's duo of Rishab Agarwal and Robin Haden went up against Ole Miss' Zvonimir Babic and Joe Rogers in the round of 16, dropping the match 8-4.
In singles play, Cutura would face off against the singles top seed, No. 32 Lukas Ollert of Auburn, falling in a 6-0, 6-1 decision.
