October 13, 2014 | Women's Tennis
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – After winning five consecutive matches in the USTA/ITA Southern Regional Championships, Mississippi State Naomi Tran had her winning streak snapped in the consolation finals on Monday, ending a 5-2 weekend in singles for the Bulldog senior.
Tran opened play on Monday by coming from behind to take a tight 4-6, 7-5, 1-0(8) decision from Tulane's Jacqui Katz in the semifinal round. She then faced 90th-ranked Luicelena Perez of Alabama (the tournament's No. 8 seed entering the weekend) in the consolation championship in 6-1, 6-1 setback. Tran is now 10-4 this fall.
Mississippi State will now take a two-week hiatus from fall action, before returning to Tuscaloosa for the Roberta Alison Classic, which runs Oct. 31-Nov. 2. The tournament will close out the 2014 fall season for the Bulldogs.
