Ramey Sits In First Place After Opening Round Of Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational

The Fulton, Miss., native knocked down eight birdies on his way to a 9-under-par 63, giving Ramey a two-shot lead over Cal State Fullerton's Mark Anguiano.
MSU turned in its best round of golf in 30 years on Monday, as the Bulldogs shot a 14-under-par 274 to finish the opening round two shots behind first-place Cal State Fullerton.
“We got off to a fast start today and posted a really good team score,” coach Clay Homan said. “We have struggled a little this fall by not playing well in round one, but that wasn't the case today. Chad posted one of the best individual scores in our history and the others did their part as well. We must continue to stay aggressive and make birdies because the course is there for the taking.”
Senior Joe Sakulpolphaisan also scored in the 60's on Monday, firing a 3-under 69 to sit tied for 14th overall at the WPMI. The 69 was the lowest opening-round score for Sakulpolphaisan since posting a 65 in the Bulldog's season opener at the Sam Hall Intercollegiate.
Sophomore Ben Wood scored a 2-under 70 to tie for 21st after the opening round. Wood is coming off a 6th-place finish at the Bridgestone Golf Collegiate.
Rounding out the Bulldog scoring on Monday were seniors Barrett Edens (t39th) and Axel Boasson (t56th) shooting at even and 2-over respectively.
Homan's squad will hit the greens at 11:30 a.m. CST, for the second round from Hawaii.
