Patrasc Falls In Finals; MSU Women?s Tennis Ends 2013 Fall Play

STARKVILLE, Miss. – Mississippi State women's tennis wrapped up its 2013 fall campaign Saturday by closing out play in two tournaments.
Sophomore Georgiana Patrasc, seeded third in the Jack Kramer Invite and ranked 76th nationally, took on 56th-ranked and ninth-seeded Gabby DeSimone of Southern Cal in the semifinals Saturday, defeating her 6-1, 6-4. The victory launched the All-SEC sophomore into the finals, where she competed against 30th-ranked and top-seeded Stefanie Tan of TCU. There, Patrasc dropped a hard-fought title match 6-4, 6-2.
Also in the Jack Kramer, MSU's doubles team Rosie Dion and Patrasc competed against Ferny Angeles Paz and Noelle Malley of Ohio State in a tough quarterfinals match Saturday. The Bulldogs ultimately dropped the contest 8-5, concluding their doubles action in the event.
In other final fall action Saturday, all the way across the country in Sarasota, Fla., State completed play in the 2013 Lakewood Ranch Dick Vitale Intercollegiate Clay Court Classic. State's Petra Ferancova played a tough consolation singles quarterfinals match, dropping it 4-6, 6-2, 1-0(7) to Julie Sabacinski of Notre Dame.
MSU women's tennis will open the 2014 dual match campaign on January 19, hosting Alabama State and Alabama A&M in a doubleheader at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre.
