Mississippi State Qualifies for Finals at SEC Outdoor Championship

"We have a goal of competing with the best, and to do that you have first qualify for the finals," coach Steve Dudley said. "Our athletes composed themselves, competed with great effort and in the end they found a way to secure spots for Sunday."
Former SEC Champion Rochelle Farquharson scored the first points of the day. Competing in the long jump, Farquharson posted a jump of 20-07.25 to finish third and score six points for the Lady Bulldogs.
Jody-Ann Muir was the lone Maroon and White woman to secure a spot in the finals. Muir took to the track in the 400-meter dash, where she posted a time of 52.67 to finish third and move on to Sunday's competition.
Trevarus Christian scored the Bulldogs only point on day two and when action had ceased on day three he had continued the scoring trend. Christian joined forces with teammate Jarrett Samuels to compete in the long jump. Samuels fifth place jump of 25-08.25 scored MSU four points and slightly edged Christian who jumped 25-03.25 to finish sixth and pick up three points.
Also continuing hard work from Friday, were hurdlers Nathan Arnett and Emanuel Mayers, who on day two qualified for the finals in the 400-meter hurdles. In Saturday's 100-meter hurdles preliminary they again qualified for Sunday, as Arnett ran a third place time of 13.98, while Mayers posted a time of 14.20 to finish seventh.
James Harris and Daundre Barnaby were the second pair of Maroon and White men to find a spot competing on Sunday as they laced up for the 400-meter dash. Harris posted a time of 46.47 to finish fourth, while Barnaby ran 46.12 to finish the race in eighth.
A pair of distance athletes closed out day three for MSU. Juan Sanchez closed out the qualifying as secured a spot on Sunday in the 1500-meter run with an 11th place time of 3:51.46, while John Valentine (9:11.94) secured the final points of the day as he finished fifth in the 3000-meter steeplechase and earned four points.
Heading into the final day of competition the Lady Bulldogs stand in ninth place with 17 points, while the Bulldogs are eighth with a total of 12 points.
