Ramey Posts Top 10 Finish At SEC Championship
April 22, 2012 | Men's Golf
Ramey's Top 10 finish is the best card turned in by a Bulldog golfer in the SEC Championship since Carlos Sainz, Jr., posted a runner-up finish in 2009. Although the team has been eliminated from postseason contention, Ramey still may have the opportunity to compete in an NCAA Regional as an individual.
MSU turned in an 879 in the 56-hole event. After a first-round 289, the Bulldogs were tied for ninth but slid down the leaderboard through the last two rounds. The 879 clip is the second-best tally posted by the Maroon and White in the conference championship since 2008.
Senior Alex Rowland finished his career just outside the Top 10 on MSU's all-time career scoring average leaders. His 217 card in the Peach State missed the Top 25 by only two strokes. The Houston native highlighted the 2011-12 MSU season when he claimed a share of the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate title and garnered SEC Player of the Week honors.
Clay Bounds notched a 76 in Sunday's final round and finished at 224. Both John Darden and Axel Boasson turned in 77's Sunday and finished at 231 and 233, respectively.
No. 8 Alabama is the 2012 SEC Tournament Champion. The Crimson Tide claimed a six-stroke victory over third-ranked Auburn with a 12-under-par 828. Bama turned in a 272 and 274 during the first two rounds and cruised to victory with a final-round 282.
Alabama freshman standout Justin Thomas claimed a two-stroke victory over his teammate, Bobby Wyatt, for the individual crown. Thomas claimed the title posting a 7-under-par 203 clip.
