Bulldogs Tied For Ninth, Ramey Tied For Second At SEC Championship
April 20, 2012 | Men's Golf
Entering the weekend event, the Bulldogs owned a 68-64-3 record this season. To earn a regional bid, MSU must finish at least eighth in the 12-team field. State currently battling in-state foe Ole Miss for eighth-place. The Rebels have a two-stroke advantage on the Bulldogs.
No. 8 Alabama is the field leader after round one with an 8-under-par 272, while No. 25 Georgia is second at 7-under. No. 3 Auburn rounds out the Top 3 at 3-under.
Sophomore Chad Ramey is tied for second after an opening-round 3-under-par 67. The Fulton native posted par on the front nine, but birdied holes 10, 11 and 13 to climb the leaderboard.
Alex Rowland managed to turn in par for the first 18 holes. A bogey by the senior on No. 4 was negated by a birdie on No. 15.
Axel Boasson and Clay Bounds each turned in 76's, while John Darden notched a 78.
"Chad and Alex both stepped up big today and played some outstanding golf," MSU coach Homan said. We let several shots get away from us at the bottom of our lineup, mostly with poor wedge play. Its nothing that can't be corrected going into the weekend, though."
Bobby Wyatt of Alabama paces the field individually after a 5-under-par 65 performance.
