Mississippi State Women's Tennis Drops 5-2 Decision At No. 35 LSU

BATON ROUGE, La. - In its seventh conference match of the spring campaign, Mississippi State Lady Bulldog tennis fell 5-2 on the road to 35th-ranked LSU Friday.
With the loss, State fell to 6-10 overall, 0-7 in SEC play. LSU improved to 11-7, 4-3.
In doubles competition, LSU grabbed the first victory as Whitney Wolf and Keri Frankenberger bested Petra Ferancova and Roseline Dion 8-4 at the No. 3 position. State's Olesya Tsigvintseva and Ekaterina Iakovleva responded by notching an 8-6 victory on court two. LSU then claimed the doubles point with a tight 8-6 win for Ariel Morton and Kaitlin Burns against MSU's Alexandra Perper and Naomi Tran at No. 3.
LSU took a 3-0 lead with a 6-1, 6-1 win against Roseline Dion at the No. 6 position, followed by a 6-1, 6-2 victory for Wilson against Ferancova at No. 5.
The Lady Bulldogs notched their first point of the day when Iakovleva registered an impressive?6-1, 6-3 victory on court three over Burns. However, the Lady Tigers clinched the match as Wolf held off MSU's 114th ranked Perper in a close 6-4, 6-4 match at the No. 1 position.
After the match was clinched the final two matches of the day both went to a third set. LSU's Frankenberger held off a rally from State's Tran 6-1, 3-6, 6-2 at No. 4. MSU's Tsigvintseva then claimed victory in favor of the Bulldogs on court two, coming from behind to take down Howlett 2-6, 7-5, 6-4.
The Lady Bulldogs will be back in action Sunday as they take on 29th ranked Arkansas in Fayetteville. Updates will be available through Twitter via @mstateWT.
