LAREDO, Texas. - While the Mississippi State men's golf team turned in a seventh-place 607 card, sophomore Chad Ramey notched back-to-back 73's in the first two rounds of the Border Olympics at the Laredo Country Club to finish Monday's first set of rounds in a tie for seventh-place.

The Bulldogs carded a 303 in round one and a 304 in round two to finish the day just six shots back of a Top 5 finish. MSU is currently riding a streak of seven straight Top 10 finishes. If the team holds own to its seventh-place slot and secures an eighth-consecutive Top 10 finish tomorrow, it will mark only the sixth time a team has accomplished that feat in program history.

Ramey's 2-over-par continues a streak of four straight successful opening days for the Houston native. He has not shot over a 73 in any first two rounds this spring and has notched Top 15 finishes in three consecutive events.

Senior Alex Rowland turned in a 6-over-par 150, which has him just one stroke back of another Top 25 finish.

Senior Clay Bounds followed Rowland with a 154 while John Darden and Fletcher Johnson rounded out the Bulldogs' leaderboard with a 157 and 161, respectively.

"We battled a tough, windy day," MSU coach Clay Homan said. "We did not execute our game plan very well, and our short game let us down. We had a chance in the second to move up but played the last four holes poorly. We have to come out tomorrow and play hard and play smarter. If we do, we will move up the board."
