Ramey Tied For Third After Second Round Of Gator Invitational
February 12, 2012 | Men's Golf
The Fulton-native's 72.15 average scoring clip is currently seventh best in the SEC and would rank fourth lowest all-time in season scoring average in the MSU record books.
The Bulldogs' 287 in the first round tied a season-best opening round and was followed by a second-round 300. The team's current eighth-place card would be the best finish in this event since the 2007-08 squad finished third.
In his first action of the season, John Darden finds himself just behind Ramey after notching a two-round, 14th-place 143. His 24 pars during the first day is the most for the Maroon and White and just three less that Josh Eure of Arkansas, who has carded the most pars (27) in the tournament through two rounds.
Alex Rowland turned in a 72 in the first round but struggled with a 78 to end the day. Tyler Smith and Mike Genovese rounded out the Bulldogs' leaderboard with a 155 and 158, respectively.
"I was pleased with the play of Chad and John. It was nice to see the way they played under cool and windy conditions," MSU coach Clay Homan said. "We were in a good position after round one, but it really hurt us having to count a 78 and an 80 in the second round. With better wedge play and putting, we could have easily saved 10 to 15 shots today. We still have a chance to finish in the top half of an outstanding field with a solid score tomorrow."
Final-round action begins 9 a.m. CST on Sunday. Live stats will be available through HailState.com
