MSU's Perper/Tran Advance To Doubles Semis At ITA Southern Regionals

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - In their second day of competition, Alexandra Perper and Naomi Tran of the Mississippi State Lady Bulldogs paired up to post two impressive wins and clinch a semifinal doubles slot at the ITA Southern Regional Championships.
The MSU duo, a 5-8 seed in the A Doubles Draw, sailed past Maya Jansen and
Emily Zabor of Alabama in the round of 16, defeating the pair 8-4. In the
quarterfinal round, Perper and Tran upset third-seeded Emma Levy and Klara
Vyskocilova of Tulane 8-3, rocketing the Lady Bulldog tandem into the
semifinal round of play set to take place on Sunday. Perper and Tran will take
on second-seeded Jackie Kasler and Jen Pfeifler of Auburn.
In singles play Saturday, State had two players competing in the round of
16 of the A Draw, but neither was able to advance. Perper, a junior from
Moldova, dropped her first set against Natalia Maynetto of Alabama 6-1, and was
forced to retire trailing 3-0 in the second set due to an injury. Georgiana
Patrasc fell in a 6-1, 6-2 decision to Auburn's Jackie Kasler.
In consolation play, newcomer Lien Van Geel fell 6-0, 6-3 to Ashley Kitchen, also of Auburn, in the round of 16.
Patrasc and Sarai Flores represented the Maroon and White in the A Draw doubles
consolation bracket Saturday, dropping their first-round match there to Michala
Kucharova and Plamena Kurteva of Auburn in a close 8-6 decision.
