COLLEGE STATION, Texas - As action wrapped at the Gillam Indoor Track Stadium, the Mississippi State Lady Bulldogs found themselves right in the heat of things. They might not have been at the top of the leader boards, but the lessons they learned were well worth the trip to College Station, Texas.

"We didn't have a great day, but there is still time for improvement," coach Steve Dudley said. "In track, you have to have your mindset right from the start and we just were not ready. Greatness is not going to come find you, you have to reach out and grab it and we have to get ourselves ready before the SEC Championships at the end of the month."

It was a good day for the MSU distance runners, as the distance medley team of sophomores Chloe Phillips, Skylar Wallen, Keisha Wallace and freshman Katie Huston finished fourth with a time of 12:06.73. Individually on the distance side, sophomore Haley Greenwell (9:55.23) posted a fifth place finish in the 3000m and Phillips (5:00.60) finished sixth in the mile.

Leading the Lady Bulldog individual finishers was junior Favian Cowards with her fourth-place finish in the weight throw. Cowards threw a total of six times, but it was her fifth throw of 58-4 ½ that earned her the fourth place finish.

Rounding out the top 10 finishes for the Lady Bulldogs were senior Taneisha Baker who finished seventh in the 60m and ninth in the 400m, Wallen who finished seventh in the 600yd run, and freshman Rochelle Farquharson who finished seventh in the long jump.

Also in competition at Texas A&M were the Bulldog men, who found themselves among the top a couple of times. Sophomore Tavaris Tate was the top individual finisher for the men, as he finished second in the 200m dash with a time of 20.99. Also making their way onto the leader boards were freshman Carter Hewitt (2:29.69) and D'Angelo Cherry (6.71) who both posted third-place finishes in the 1000m and 60m, respectively.

Upon return from College Station, the Bulldogs will begin championship season as they travel to Fayetteville, Ark., on Feb. 25 for the SEC Indoor Championships.
