2011 Cross Country Season Ends At NCAA South Regional

At day's end, it was Florida State racing away with victories in both the women's 6K and the men's 10K; while the Lady Bulldogs finished eighth and the Bulldogs came in 11th.
"Both teams ran a lot better than we did two weeks ago," coach Houston Franks said. "We were a little thin on each side, but they did a good job of battling and fighting it out. All in all we ran a good race and had a good finish to the season."
Leading the charge for the Lady Bulldogs Top 10 finish was Renee Masterson who finished 26th with a time of 21:31.2, followed by Anna Jarman in 31st (21:38.4). Jodie McGuff was the top MSU freshman on with her time of 22:07.6 to finish 54th.
"The women capped off a good season," stated Franks. "We were missing one of our key runners, but the rest of the girl's stepped up and filled the gap."
Cameron Vernier was the top finisher for the Bulldogs at 38th (32:31.4). Following Vernier across the line was John Valentine in 57th (33:08.7) and Philip Johnson in 59th (33:12.5).
"The men ran really well today," Franks added. "They competed with a lot of toughness and beat a few teams who had beat us previously, so it was nice to get a little vengeance on them at day's end."
With the cross country season in the books, MSU's dual-sport athletes will now turn their focus to intdoor track and field which begins Jan. 12th.
