Bulldogs Conclude Play At ITA Future

NICEVILLE, Fla. - After battling to the round of 16 in qualifying action, Mississippi State's George Coupland and James Chaudry ended their runs at the USA F29 Future on Monday.
Competing in the round of 16 of qualifying, Coupland took on Mitchell Ponet. After falling in the first set 6-3, Coupland battled through the second to as the two went to a 6-6 tiebreaker. However, Ponet outlasted Coupland and took the match 6-3, 7-6(6).
Also in a tight battle in the round of 16 was Chaudry. Taking on Ruben Gonzales, Chaudry took the first set 6-4 but dropped the second in a tough 7-6(3) tiebreaker. Swinging to third, Gonzales proved too much, edging Chaudry 4-6, 7-6(3), 6-4.
Two Bulldogs will head to New York for the 2011 USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships beginning Thursday, Nov. 3. After receiving the at-large bid out of the Southern Region, MSU's 7th-ranked pair of Louis Cant and Malte Stropp will compete in the doubles main draw on Thursday.
