Stropp And Cant Advance to Semifinals At Southern Regionals

AUBURN, Ala. – Mississippi State's Malte Stropp advanced to the semifinals of singles, and semis of doubles play alongside partner Louis Cant, at the USTA/ITA Southern Region Championships with wins on Saturday.
In the third round of doubles action, the top seeded, 7th-ranked MSU duo of Cant and Stropp moved into the quarterfinals as they topped Louisiana Lafayette's Ted Nilsson and Carl Alberton 8-1. In the quarters, Cant and Stropp took on Neal Skupski and Roger Anderson of LSU, a 5-8 seed, taking the match 8-4 to advance to Sunday's semifinals.
Swinging to the quarterfinals of singles play, MSU's 73rd-ranked Chaudry faced off against the fellow Bulldog Stropp, fourth-seeded and ranked #46 in the ITA polls. Stropp topped his MSU teammate 6-1, 6-0, advancing to the semifinals of that draw as well.
MSU's second-seeded and 36th-ranked Cant faced a tough Auburn opponent in #70 Andreas Mies, a 5-8 seed. After falling 6-2 in the first set, Cant took the second 7-6(6) to even the match. However, Miles took the third and prevailed 6-2, 6-7(6), 6-3. Mies will face MSU's Stropp in the semifinals.
In other doubles action Saturday, Chaudry and Zach White took an easy 8-2 victory over Matt Zachary and Thom Knights of LSU, but fell in their quarterfinal bout to LSU's Olivier Borsos and Chris Simpson 8-6. Borsos and Simpson will be the semifinal foe for MSU's Cant and Stropp on Sunday.
State's George Coupland and Trey Seymour took on Vikran Reddy and Michael Thompson of Alabama in the round of 16. After a back and forth battle, the Crimson Tide duo took the match 8-6, eliminating Coupland and Seymour from doubles action.
