
Bulldogs Conclude Impressive Showing At ITA Southern Regionals

AUBURN, Ala. - After battling to the semifinals of singles and doubles action Saturday, Mississippi State sophomore Malte Stropp and senior Louis Cant saw their stellar runs at the USTA/ITA Southern Regional Championships end Sunday.
Facing 70th-ranked Andreas Mies of host Auburn in the singles semis, the fourth-seeded and 36th-ranked Stropp battled through three tough sets. After falling 6-3 in the first, Stropp breezed through the second set 6-1. However, Mies proved too much as he took the third set and the match 6-3, 1-6, 6-3.
In their semifinal doubles matchup, the top-seeded and seventh-ranked tandem of Cant and Stropp took on Olivier Borses and Chris Simpson of LSU. In an epic semifinal showdown, State battled but was eventually taken down 8-6 to end their deep run in the draw.
State will be back in action Oct. 28 when selected members of the team will compete in a USTA Futures event in Niceville, Fla.
