Three Lady Bulldogs Advance To Roberta Alison Finals

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Three Mississippi State women's tennis players are headed to the finals of their respective singles draws at the Roberta Alison Fall Classic as Khrystyna Pavlyuk, Roseline Dion and Petra Ferancova all claimed two wins Friday.
The newcomer Pavlyuk opened the day with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Candela Munoz of Troy in the M&M draw. She then ousted the #2 seed Gabby Rangel of Ole Miss 6-2, def., in the semifinals. She will play Alabama's Emily Zabor in the finals tomorrow.
Dion will play in the finals of the Jolly Rancher bracket tomorrow after downing Charlotte Phillips of Houston 6-4, 7-6(4) and Kate Lanier of Southern Miss 6-2, 6-4.
The last finalist for the Lady Bulldogs is rookie Petra Ferancova. After opening the day with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Sophie Nelson of North Carolina State, she secured her spot in the finals of the Twizzler draw with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over West Alabama's Natalia Cardenas.
In other singles action Friday, MSU newcomer Ekaterina Iakovela fell to North Carolina State's Joelle Kissell and also dropped a consolation match to Northwestern State's Olga Bazhanova later in the day in the Reese's bracket.
Lady Bulldog Olesya Tsigvintseva took down the #1 seed of the Skittles draw in North Carolina State's Ashley Miller 7-6(5), 6-2, before falling in the semifinals of that bracket.
The day started with doubles matches, where the rookies Iakoveleva and Pavlyuk set the bar high during the first round of the Tootsie Roll Draw by defeating the tournament's #3 seeded pair, North Carolina State's Elisha Hande and Christy Sipes, 8-6.
Lady Bulldogs Tsigvintseva and Ferancova fell in the first round of the Jelly Bean bracket to the second-seeded Georgia State pair of Whitney Byrd and Masa Grgan, 8-3.
"The girls played really well today, and I hope we can continue that play tomorrow," said head coach Daryl Greenan.
Tomorrow's action will begin at 9 a.m. with singles matches, and will be followed by the remainder of the doubles matches.
