Aaron Has Best SEC Meet Of Life, Finishes Second In 60-Meter Hurdle Final
February 28, 2010 | Track & Field
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Mississippi State ended competition at the 2010 SEC Indoor Championships at Arkansas Sunday, scoring 16 points to finish 11th. However, senior standout LaQuinta Aaron concluded a phenomenal weekend at the Randal Tyson Track Center scoring 10 solo points.
"We didn't have a very good meet, but we did do well in some areas," MSU coach Al Schmidt said. "We have a talented young team, and this is not a league for freshman. We are on the right move; we just have to perform at the big meets."
Florida captured the SEC women's title with 110 points, followed by Arkansas and LSU with 82 and 79.5 points respectively.
Aaron, the Tuscaloosa, Ala., native, finished second in the 60-meter hurdle final with an 8.31 second performance.
"LaQuinta had the best SEC meet of her life," Schmidt said. "She competed really well and really shined out there for us."
Her hurdle time secured her spot as second-all time in MSU history in the event to end her indoor career at State. Freshman Keisha Wallace finished seventh in the event at 8.57.
The Maroon and White 4x400-meter relay team bettered its school-record performance from two weeks ago to finish in seventh-place.
"The 4x400 (meter relay) team ran really well in a heat pretty much by themselves," Schmidt said. "They were in a slower heat and shattered the school record with no one around them."
The quartet of Taneisha Baker, Aaron, Jody-Ann Muir and Crystal Wilson finished in 3 minutes, 41.31 seconds.
Other notable performances from the day were Baker's 25.34 second performance in the 200-meter dash, good for second in MSU history, and a ninth-place 12:06.29 finish in the distance medley relay.
Highlights from the 2010 SEC Indoor Championships will air on ESPNU March 11 at 8 p.m.
