State Golf Improves In Final Round Of Gator Invitational

After notching opening day rounds of 302 and 303, the Bulldogs shot an improved 295 to finish with a score of 900 for the tournament. MSU finished 13th among the 14-team field. Host-school Florida won the tournament with a commanding 1-over-par three-round score of 841.
"Overall not the week we were looking for but a few bright spots were the solid play of Robi Calvesbert and Brad Thompson is headed in the right direction," said seventh-year head coach Clay Homan. "We must be much better on and around the greens in order to be competitive. This weekend we were not."
True freshman Robi Calvesbert led the way for the Bulldog lineup for the second time in his young career. Calvesbert notched a 74 in the third round to give the Puerto Rico-native a three-round score of 219 and finished in a tie for 23rd among the individual field.
State's sophomore Brad Thompson finished second for MSU with a three-round tally of 225 followed by sophomore Lee Heaton who trailed Thompson's three-round total by three strokes with a 228.
True freshman Brad Mason saw a large improvement from his opening day play and was the only Bulldog to match par in a round for the tournament, posting a 70 in the final round. Mason also led MState in birdies made in the three-round event with seven.
Redshirt freshman John Darden rounded out MSU's lineup with a three-round total of 240.
MSU will resume its spring action on Feb. 21 at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate in Mobile, Ala.
