Angela Bensend tallied a match-high 15 kills and Desiree Elliott added 12 on a .688 hitting night as the Tigers maintained at least a share of the SEC Western Division lead.
State, held to a season-low 18 kills and a negative .011 attack percentage, were led by Caitlin Rance's nine kills. Ashley Newsome finished with two kills and two blocks. Freshman Sydney Knose enjoyed a productive second career appearance with a kill and six digs during the third set. Kayla Woodard paced the Bulldogs defensively with eight digs.
Despite being limited to five kills in the opening set, the Bulldogs put together a 6-0 run to overcome a 10-5 deficit and claim an 11-10 lead over the Tigers. Caitlin Rance registered four of those kills and a service in the set. LSU, riding a five-kill performance by Desire Elliott, scored the next five points to regain momentum en route to a 25-16 win.
The Tigers sizzled offensively in the second set, hitting at a .615 clip with 18 kills in 20 attacks and raced away from a 5-5 deadlock for a 25-13 win. Angela Bensend had seven of LSU's 18 kills while Kellye Jordan paced State with two kills.
Mississippi State stepped up its play in the third set, and a kill by Rance gave the Bulldogs an 18-17 lead. But after a timeout, the Tigers roared back to life, out-pointing the Bulldogs 7-3 down the stretch for a match-clinching 25-20 win.
The Bulldogs continue their SEC weekend road run Sunday with a 1:30 p.m. match at Arkansas (11-13, 5-9 SEC). The Razorbacks bested the Crimson Tide 3-1 (25-20, 13-25, 25-16, 28-26) in Fayetteville.
