#14 Gators Prove Too Tough For Lady Bulldogs On The Road

STARKVILLE, Miss. ? Playing against its second ranked opponent in three days, Mississippi State's women's team (9-5, 0-5 Southeastern Conference) fell to the 14th-ranked Florida Gators (10-6, 4-2 SEC) 6-1 in on the road Sunday afternoon.

The Lady Bulldogs managed to pick up a doubles victory to start the day at court No. 3 when the tandem of Daniela Juskova and Radka Ferancova ousted the UF pair of Brook Allen and Barbara Pinterova 8-5.

That win was not enough, however, as the two remaining courts fell in Florida's favor. State's duo of Martina Banikova and Elna de Villiers fell to Jessica Alexander and Anastasia Revzina of Florida 8-5, while the MSU tandem of Natalia Mayuk and Olesya Tsigvintseva dropped an 8-0 decision to UF's pair of Marrit Boonstra and Joanna Mather at the second position.

With a 1-0 deficit after doubles play, the Lady Bulldogs went down 2-0 when the fifth-ranked Boonstra ousted MSU's Tsigvintseva 6-1, 6-0 at the top spot in the lineup.

State picked up its first and only point of the day when Valeriya Makarycheva notched a 6-1, 6-2 triumph over UF's Allen at court No. 6.

The Lady Bulldogs fought hard on the rest of the remaining courts, but Florida proved to be too much for State, winning the final four matches of the afternoon.

After Florida notched straight-set victories at the No. 3 and 4 spots, both matches at positions two and five went into third-set super tiebreakers to determine their outcomes. MSU's Banikova fell 5-7, 6-3, 1-0(7) at No. 2 to the 29th-ranked Gator Revzina while Mayuk dropped a tough 6-2, 4-6, 1-0(7) decision to the Gators' Pinterova at No. 5.

MSU next travels to Nashville, Tenn., this Friday, April 3, to play against the Vanderbilt Commodores, before venturing to Lexington, Ky., to take on the Kentucky Wildcats on Sunday, April 5.
