Bulldog Golf Team One Shot Back At Mobile Bay Intercollegiate
March 22, 2009 | Men's Golf
“This is a very difficult golf course,” said head coach Clay Homan. “The greens have a lot of slope in them and it is very difficult to two-putt. Par is a great score today.”
Senior Noah Goldman led MSU with an even-par round of 72 Sunday and sits in a tie for third place. Senior Josh Bevell is one shot back of Goldman with a first-round 73, in a tie for fifth.
“Noah and Josh really kept us in it today,” said Homan. “On a day when only four people in the whole tournament shot par or better, they did great. They both kept the ball in play which is what you have to do on this course.”
Fellow senior Carlos Sainz, Jr. is tied for 34th after a round of 77 on Sunday. Senior Matt Fast fired a 78 Sunday to place in a tie for 49th while Brian Mason carded an opening-round 79 to sit in a tie for 53rd. Freshman Brooks Bankhead is also tied for 53rd with a first-round 79. Bankhead is competing as an individual and his score does not count towards the team score.
State will begin its second round of play on Monday at 9:10 a.m. CT.
