TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -Mississippi State men's and women's cross country squads finish in the Top 15 at the NCAA South Regional Championships in Tuscaloosa, Ala., Saturday, with the men placing 9th in the 10K run.
The Lady Bulldogs also had a successful morning on this sun-drenched day with a 13th-place finish.
Bulldog Adam Lenz's 31 minute, 57.91 second effort led the way for State. Chase Rathake (32:47.77) and Daniel Simpkins (32:10.28) weren't far behind rounding out MSU's top three finishers. For the Lady Bulldogs, junior Simone Domingue continued her successful season at 31st with a run of 21:29.75 to finish as the women's top finisher. Dominique Lockhart (22:17.59) stepped up as the Lady Bulldogs number two runner followed by Adrianna Poole (22:46.83) who finished as State's third runner.
"We ran pretty well on both sides today," MSU coach Al Schmidt said. "We did a great job with a lot of young kids, and did a lot better job running as a group today."
The 2009 men's and women's SEC Champions Alabama and Florida added to their respective titles, winning the overall South Regional crowns. Florida State and Auburn finished behind Alabama to come in second and third-place. Florida State also finished second in the women's race, with Tennessee taking third.
"All in all we ran really well with the group of guys we had out there," Schmidt said. "We were without our number three runner (Rob Ellis), and our guys really stepped it up today. The women entered the weekend after not being ranked all season and came away with a 13th -place finish. Simone ran pretty great for us today, and we competed as a group. I'm really proud of our kids."
