State Lady Netters Conclude First Day At SEC Fall Coaches Classic

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. ? Going against foes from around the Southeastern Conference, the Mississippi State women's tennis team completed the first day of action at the SEC Fall Coaches Classic Thursday.

With only the first round of singles being played, MSU had a tough day, failing to pick up a victory, but three Lady Bulldogs extended their matches to third sets before ultimately falling.

Rookie Olesya Tsigvintseva competed in the Crimson Draw, dropping a 6-1, 7-5 decision to 51st-ranked Alex Haney of Auburn. In other action, MSU's Radka Ferancova fell in three sets, 2-6, 6-2, 6-4, to Keilly Ulery of Vanderbilt in the Silver Draw, while Emily Carbone of Arkansas defeated MSU's Elna de Villiers 5-7, 7-6, 6-1, in a close three-set Bronze Draw matchup.

Also in action were Lady Bulldogs Natalia Mayuk, Valeriya Makarycheva, and Jordan Zachary. Mayuk fell to Jennifer Stone of Kentucky 6-4, 6-3 in the Blue Draw, while Makarycheva lost to Hannah Blatt of Vanderbilt 7-5, 6-3, and Zachary dropped a three-set decision to Heather Bybee of Auburn 6-3, 4-6, 6-1. Makarycheva and Zachary were both playing in the Green Draw.

The Lady Bulldogs will be back in action tomorrow, as doubles action gets underway at 9 a.m. CT.
