
Bulldogs Improve On Final Day At UNCG Bridgestone; Sainz Places Fourth

GREENSBORO, N.C. ? The Mississippi State men's golf team concluded play Tuesday at the UNCG Bridgestone Collegiate Championship finishing in 10th place, climbing four spots on the final day. Playing at the par-72 Forest Oaks Country Club, the Bulldogs fired a score of 897 for a 33-over-par performance.
After notching a 27-over par, 604, in the first two rounds round, the Bulldogs rebounded in round three, improving their score by 11 strokes tomove into 10th place for the competition. The Bulldogs' third day score of 5-over-par was the second best performance of the day, bested only by Duke's 1-over-par 289.
Mississippi State's top finisher for the fourth consecutive tournament was Carlos Sainz, Jr. Sainz shot a three-round score of 216, and finished at even par. The senior started off the tournament with a 2-under par performance followed by a 4-over-par mark in the second round. Sainz responded with another 2-under par performance in the final round, guiding Sainz to a tie for fourth in the individual field. The fourth place finish was the best ever for the Elgin, Ill., native.
Senior Noah Goldman shot an 8-over-par with rounds of 74 and 78 after the first two rounds of play. He then fired an even-par 72 with three birdies and three bogeys on the final day to finish in a tie for 30th. Brian Mason improved every round by firing a 77-76-75 and tied for 45th with a three day total of 228.
Josh Bevell finished at 232 and in a tie for 60th with fellow senior Logan Young closing out the Bulldogs scoring with a three-round score of 233.
MSU will take two weeks off before competing in the Turtle Bay Resort College Invitational on November 11-12 in Kahuku, Oahu, Hawaii.
