LEXINGTON, Ky. ? Mississippi State senior Kevyn Shelledy netted her fourth goal of the season in a school-record 25 seconds, and sophomore Danielle Kite added another as the Bulldog soccer team fell 3-2 to Kentucky in a hard-fought overtime decision Thursday night at the UK Soccer Complex.

UK (4-11-2, 2-6-1 SEC) netted the winner with 2:19 left in overtime as Jenna Goblirsch, the younger sister of Bulldog senior Anna Goblirsch, sent a pass to Giuleana Lopez whose shot was deflected by MState junior goalkeeper Taryn Holland. Nicola Holdsworth found the deflected ball right at her foot, and she netted it for her second goal of the night.

Holland moved just 26 saves from the top spot on the school's all-time saves list as she turned back 11 of UK's 14 attempts on goal. The Franklin, Tenn., native also set a new career high for saves in a season with 115.

State (5-13-0, 0-9-0 SEC), who connected on two of its three on-goal opportunities, jumped out to an early lead for the second straight match with Shelledy's goal. Senior Meredith Jacobson tried to slip a pass to freshman Tarah Henderson, but UK goalie Laura Burton knocked the ball right to Shelledy who chipped her fourth goal of the year into the empty net from 40 yards out.

“I was very proud of the way we played tonight,” Macdonald said. “Our back line played really well, and Taryn (Holland) turned in an excellent performance. Kevyn (Shelledy) and Dani (Kite) scored very nice goals tonight, but Kentucky was just in the right place at the right time. At this point in the season, I am proud of our team because they continue to come out and battle in every match.”

The Wildcats evened the match at the 23:56 mark as Holdsworth lined a ball that had been headed around in the box into the net from 18 yards away.

The two teams went to the half knotted at a goal apiece despite a pair of MSU free kick opportunities that narrowly missed finding the net. Although the Bulldogs were unable to take a lead to the intermission, they took a 2-1 lead 4:23 into the second half on their lone corner kick of the night. Instead of sending the corner into the box, senior Bethany Frazier found sophomore Mary Clare Scurria on the right wing, and she delivered a perfectly-placed pass to Kite who turned and slipped a goal just inside the right post from 15 yards.

State was unable to make the lead hold up, however, as Goblirsch split a pair of Bulldog defenders and found the net with 24:43 left in the match.

The Bulldogs return to the MSU Soccer Field for its final two matches of the season. State hosts Vanderbilt Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. before closing the campaign against in-state rival Ole Miss on Oct. 31 at 7 p.m. Admission to all Mississippi State home soccer matches is free.
