State Singles Stronger On Final Day At Georgia Invitational

ATHENS, Ga. ? Mississippi State claimed three singles wins on the final day of competition at the Georgia Invitational in Athens, Ga., Sunday.
In the day's singles competition, MSU's squad took on players from Kansas State. In Flight A, State's 67th-ranked Renee Joseph triumphed over Katerina Kudlackova in straight sets 6-1, 6-3. In the same flight, Elna de Villiers claimed victory over Vanessa Cottin of Kansas State 6-0, 6-2.
In Flight B play, Valeriya Makarycheva posted a victory with a win over Kansas State's Pauline Guemas 6-2, 6-1. Also in B, MSU newcomer Elizabeth Hall fell to Antea Huliey 6-4, 6-0.
In Flight A of doubles action Sunday, Martina Banikova and de Villiers fought hard against the 36th-rated Georgia tandem of Monika Dancevic and Kelly Hyndman, but ultimately fell 8-5. In other doubles play, Radka Ferancova and Joseph were defeated in Flight B by 30th-ranked Yvette Hyndman and Naoko Ueshima of Georgia 8-3. Rounding out doubles play for MSU was Daniela Juskova and DeAndra Saddler. The pair lost to UGA's Cameron Ellis and Adrienne Elsberry 8-3.
"I am very happy with the way our team is playing right now," commented head coach Tracy Lane. "We won the matches we were supposed to this weekend and we played very tough in all of our matches. I look forward to our team playing at this high of a level for the rest of the season."
Mississippi State's next action will come at home at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre where the Lady Bulldogs open the 2008 dual match campaign against Louisiana-Lafayette on Feb. 2 at 2 p.m. CT.
