Lady Bulldogs Dominate In Doubles Play At Georgia Invitational

ATHENS, Ga. ? For the second day in a row, the Mississippi State women's team notched three doubles victories at the Georgia Invitational.
"I am thrilled with how our girls are playing right now," says head coach Tracy Lane. "They are playing like winners. We were great in doubles today and we played very tough in our singles matches."
In Flight A, the tandem of Martina Banikova and Elna de Villiers defeated the Troy duo of Annabelle Bares and Stephanie Vieria 9-7. In other doubles action, Radka Ferancova and Renee Joseph claimed victory in Flight B over Mirte De Bakker and Leonie Guijt of Troy 8-3. Rounding out doubles play for MSU was Valeriya Makarycheva and DeAndra Saddler. The pair triumphed over Troy's Caroline Jounia and Caroline Tran 8-0.
In singles play, MSU's squad took on players from host Georgia. In Flight A, Banikova was ousted by No. 45 Kelley Hyndman in a three-set battle 6-2, 4-6, 4-6. Also, in a rematch from earlier in the season where Joseph was victorious, Georgia's Yvette Hyndman was able to hold off Joseph for a 6-2, 6-2 victory.
In Flight B play, Radka Ferancova dropped a hard-fought match to Monika Dancevic 6-1, 6-4. In the same flight, de Villiers fell to Naoko Ueshima 6-3, 6-1. State also had two players in Flight C of competition. Daniela Juskova took on Cameron Ellis but eventually fell 7-5, 6-2. Makarycheva's Flight C match yielded the same fate when she met Adrienne Elsberry and fell 6-3, 6-3. In Flight D, rookie Elizabeth Hall dropped a tough three-set match to Arres Marine of Troy 6-2, 4-6, 1-0(3).
State will resume play in the event Sunday morning at 9 a.m. CT with MSU's doubles teams taking on doubles tandems from Georgia.
