MSU Lady Netters Complete First Day Of Action At Georgia Invitational

ATHENS, Ga. ? The Mississippi State Lady Netters had all three doubles teams win at the Georgia Invitational Friday. State also had six singles players win their opening-round matches on the first day of play.
"Our girls played really good today," commented head coach Tracy Lane. "We changed it up in doubles a little bit and it worked well for us. We are looking forward to the rest of this tournament."
In doubles, Martina Banikova and Elna de Villiers won in Flight A by defeating the Kansas State duo of Olga Klimova and Katerina Kudlackova 8-1.
Also victorious in doubles, in Flight B, was the Lady Bulldog team of Radka Ferancova and Ren?e Joseph. In the opening round, they defeated Kansas State's Natasha Vieira and Viviana Yrureta 8-4. Mississippi State's third doubles tandem of Valeriya Makarycheva and DeAndra Saddler were also able to claim victory, in Flight C, over Vanessa Cottin and Pauline Guemas of Kansas State 8-6.
In singles action, Mississippi State's 67th-ranked Joseph and Banikova both defeated their Flight A opponents. Banikova was able to move past No. 65 Annabelle Bares of Troy in straight sets, 6-2, 7-5. Joseph was ahead in the first set of her match with Troy's Rawia Elsisi before Elsisi had to bow out due to injury. Also, State's players in Flight B were able to post victories as well. Ferancova defeated Troy's Leonie Guijt 6-2, 6-2 and Daniela Juskova was able to outlast Stephanie Vieria of Troy 6-7, 6-3, 6-1.
In Flight C play, de Villiers claimed a solid victory over Troy's Caroline Jounia 6-4, 6-2. In the same flight, Makarycheva was ousted by Mirte De Bakker of Troy 1-6, 6-4, 6-3. DeAndra Saddler was able to post a victory for the Lady Bulldogs in Flight D with a win over Troy's Arres Marine 6-2, 7-6. Also in Flight D, Elizabeth Hall dropped a match to Georgia's Kelly Moore 6-0, 6-2 in her first career match in the Maroon and White.
The Lady Bulldogs will resume play in the event Saturday morning at 10 a.m. CT with MSU's doubles teams taking on doubles tandems from Troy.
