SOUTH BEND, Ind. ? The Mississippi State men's cross country team placed twelfth at the Notre Dame Invitational, while the MState women finished 20th Friday afternoon at the Notre Dame Golf Course in South Bend, Ind. MSU's men registered 308 points, while the women gathered 513 points.
Junior Jonathan Rono led the Bulldogs in the 8K competition on the men's side finishing 38th with a time of 24 minutes, 41 seconds. Freshman Ben Blakenship finished 10 spots behind in 48th place with a time of 24:52. Senior Ashenafi Arega finished 57th crossing the line at 24:56. Senior Robert Scribner clocked in at 25:05, taking 67th place. Senior Pad Judd was MSU's fifth runner to cross, coming in at 98th with a time of 25:32.
“This is better than we have ever done before here, said Men's Head Coach Steve Dudley. So from that standpoint it would be good. We are a lot better team than what we ran today. My first four guys ran faster than they have ever run, but I know they can run a lot faster.”
Freshman Simone Domingue led the Lady Bulldogs in the 5K race for the second straight week on the women's side finishing 39th with a time of 17:44. Freshman Sarah Hammes was the number two runner for MSU coming in at 98th, running 18:25.
“Simone (Domingue) ran fabulously, said Women's Head Coach Al Schmidt. Sarah (Hammes) ran decent, as well. I think we accomplished what we came here to do. There were two races and we got in the faster one.”
Both teams regroup and return to action on Sat, Oct. 13 running at the Pre-National Invitational in Terre Haute, Ind.
