
State Golfers Close Out Day One Of Linger Longer Invitational

State was paced in the morning session by sophomore Carlos Sainz, Jr.'s round of 71 and Brian Mason's even-par 72. In the second round, Mason carded a 1-under par round of 71. The Dallas, Texas-product lead all MSU competitors after 36 holes, sitting in 19th-place on the individual leaderboard heading into Monday's final round. He birdied two of his last three holes to finish his second round off on a high note. Sainz, Jr. slipped back to 1-over par for the tournament after a second-round score of 74.
The Maroon and White stands 11th in the team standings but just nine strokes out of the top-10 to claim its sixth top-10 finish of the season.
Top-ranked Georgia is the clubhouse leader at 17-under par and carries a three-stroke lead over Florida State into the final round. Four individuals are atop the individual standings at 7-under par.
