
Lady Bulldogs Cruise Past McNeese State, 94-52

STARKVILLE, Miss. ? A total of 13 Mississippi State players scored, including four in double figures, as the Lady Bulldogs (9-3) routed visiting McNeese State, 94-52, Thursday night at Humphrey Coliseum.
The sophomore duo of Tysheka Grimes and Alexis Rack led the Lady Bulldogs on an 8-3 run to open up the first half of play. The MState defense held McNeese State scoreless for more than four minutes not allowing the Cowgirls to score their first basket until the 16:28 mark.
Both teams traded field goals before the Cowgirls fought back and brought the game to 22-19 on a pair of free throws by Courtnee' Hollins.
From there the Lady Bulldogs went on an 18-8 run to bring a 42-27 advantage into the half. MSU scored 15 points off 11 McNeese State turnovers while also taking advantage of a plus 10 (23-13) rebounding margin.
The Lady Bulldogs came out of the lockerroom fighting, putting together a 13-4 run that put MState up for good in a game that they never trailed in. MState outscored McNeese State 52-25 in the second half. MSU continued their attack on the boards pulling down 53 boards, compared to the Cowgirls' 26.
Grimes scored 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the MSU charge and notch her fourth career double-double performance and second of the season. Senior Imesia Jackson matched Grimes with 16 points. Freshman Mary Kathryn Govero tallied a season-high 14 points and pulled down seven boards. Junior Marneshia Richard also scored 14 and had five rebounds and seven assists and zero turnovers for State.
State's bench outscored McNeese State's bench 38-19 and MSU scored 21 second chance points to the Cowgirls' five.
The Cowgirls (2-11) were paced by Courtnee Hollins' 17 points.
Taking the time off the celebrate the holidays, the Lady Bulldogs return to action taking on Louisiana-Lafayette, Sun., Dec. 30, in a 3:30 p.m. contest from Humphrey Coliseum in conjunction with the men's game taking place at 12:30 p.m. against Missouri.
A buy-one-get-one-free general admission ticket (two tickets for $10) will be available for admission to both games of the Sunday twinbill. In addition, current Lady Bulldog basketball season ticket holders will be admitted to the men's game (general admission seating only) by showing their season tickets at the gates. Men's basketball ticket holders may remain in the arena for the women's game. The tickets will only be available at the Humphrey Coliseum ticket office beginning at 10:30 a.m. the day of the games.
