AUBURN, Ala. ? Mississippi State's Valeriya Makarycheva notched a consolation singles win on the final day of competition at the SEC Fall Coaches' Classic Sunday, while the remainder of the Lady Bulldog contingent fell in their only matchups of the day.
Makarycheva took on Mary Claire Slade of Auburn in the consolation round of Flight 3. Makarycheva simply overpowered Slade to win in straight sets 6-0, 6-0. In the same flight, State's Tatiana Feit dropped a hard-fought match to Alabama's Bianca Svensson 6-4, 6-2.
In other singles action, Ren?e Joseph played in Flight 1's consolation round but was ultimately outlasted by Paulina Bigos of Alabama in three sets, 6-2, 2-6, 11-9. Also in the consolation round of Flight 1, Radka Ferancova was bested by Auburn's Whitney Chappell.
All three of MSU's doubles teams fell in their respective matches today as well.
Mississippi State has now concluded fall tournament play and will be off until January 19 when they begin spring competition at the Georgia Invitational in Athens, Ga.
