September 29, 2006 | Cross Country
Senior Jennifer McPherson led all MSU women competitors in the 5K portion of the event. McPherson finished 40th in the individual standings with a time of 17:39. Annie Falor was State's second finisher with a time of 17:43 to grab the 45th spot. The ladies finished ahead of South Region foe UAB in the meet. The Lady Bulldogs improved nine spots from a year ago in the Notre Dame event while the men came away six spots better from the 2005 performance.
We didn't have a great day and we did not run like have in the past two meets, said women's head coach Al Schmidt. There were ten teams ranked in the top-20 here, so we did OK.
Senior Travis McKay continued to lead the Bulldog squad. McKay has been MState's top-finisher in all three meets this season. He turned in a time of 24:57 on a legit five-mile course to place 57th on the individual side. Ashenafi Arega recorded a time of 25:13 to follow behind McKay's top-MSU time. Senior Wade Martin, who paced the squad in the 2005 edition of the UND Invitational crossed the line at 25:16.
We had an OK finish, said men's head coach Steve Dudley. We did not accomplish what we came here for, but I commend Travis McKay on his performance today.
The Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs return to action at the Chili Pepper Festival in Fayetteville, Ark. on Saturday, Oct. 14.
