State Cross Country Teams Fare well At Chili Pepper Festival

The Lady Bulldogs were the second Southeastern Conference team to cross the finish line behind No. 4 Arkansas while the Bulldogs finished the race behind two SEC foes ??“ Arkansas and Alabama. The MState women finished better than Alabama, LSU and Mississippi.
Annie Falor was the Lady Bulldog's top-finisher in the 6K event with a time of 21:36. She finished 40th in the individual field and marked the first time she has paced the women's squad this season. Michelle Corrigan followed Falor at 21:46. Mina Thorstenson tallied a time of 22:09 followed by Jennifer McPherson's time of 22:12. Thorstenson placed 71st while McPherson posted a 76th place finish.
Anytime you beat SEC teams that is a good thing, said MSU women's head coach AL Schmidt. We are going into the conference meet ranked fifth in the SEC on the women's side, so we have a shot at finishing in the top three in the SEC in two weeks. Our first four finished the way they should today, added Schmidt.
On the men's side, State was paced by senior Travis McKay crossing the finish line in 30:53 and in 56th spot. Robert Scribner was MSU's second finisher in the 10K event with a time of 31:24. Pad Judd registered a time 31:32 while Jonathan Rono (31:49) and Daniel Simpkins (32:09) rounded out the points for MState.
We have a middle of the pack attitude right now and if we do not change our attitude we will finish in the middle of the pack at the SECs, said men's head coach Steve Dudley.
The State squads will turn their attention to the Southeastern Conference Championship on Saturday, Oct. 28, in Baton Rouge, La. The run for the conference title will be held at Highland Road Park.
