De Villiers Highlights State's Day At SEC Coaches Classic

De Villiers started off the day with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 three-set victory against Alabama's Nicole Briceno in C Draw consolation play. She then took to the courts with partner Renee Joseph and claimed an 8-4 win over Paulina Bigos and Alice Tunaru of Alabama in B Draw consolation action.
Joseph suffered a close 7-6, 7-6 loss earlier in the day in B Draw consolation against Alabama's Shelley Godwin. In other singles play, Lady Bulldog Valeriya Makarycheva fell 6-3, 6-3 to Liberty Sveke of Vanderbilt in C Draw. Tatiana Feit had a bye for Saturday's action.
In A Draw doubles, Banikova teamed up with Makarycheva, losing a hard-fought 9-7 decision to Tennessee's Ghizela Schutte and Zsofia Zubor.
One corrected score from Friday was for de Villiers. The sophomore was reported as falling 6-2, 6-2 to Vanderbilt's Liberty Sveke, but she actually won that contest before falling in the second round.
Play in the annual event will conclude Sunday.
