Brian Neal joined the MSU strength and conditioning staff in February 2011 and was promoted to head of MSU Olympic Sports Strength and Conditioning in January 2016. He currently oversees all strength and conditioning training based out of the Holliman and Shira Centers, including all staff, graduate assistants, and interns.Â
Prior to joining the MSU staff, Neal had a four-year stint as Assistant Strength Coach at Sam Houston State. There he trained baseball athletes, assisted with football strength training, and directed the strength training of SHSU’s track, golf, women’s soccer, and women’s basketball athletes.
Neal was a linebacker on the Bridgewater College football team, and while an undergraduate, he served internships with the strength and conditioning programs at Virginia Tech in 2003 and at North Carolina in 2004. Upon graduation from Bridgewater College, where he double-majored in exercise science and allied health sciences, Neal served as a graduate assistant strength coach at Southern Miss (2005-2007), where he earned a graduate degree in sports coaching education. He also served an internship with the United States Olympic Committee (2007), working primarily with Summer Olympic athletes.   Â
Certified with the NSCA (National Strength and Conditioning Association), the USAW (United States Weightlifting), and CSCCA (Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association), he coordinates strength and conditioning at Mississippi State for baseball, women’s soccer and both men’s and women’s golf.
Away from his duties at MSU, Neal trains and competes in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and mixed martial arts.
Neal is a native of Forest, VA and married to the former Amber Robertson of New Hope, Mississippi.
