Sharrona Reaves enters her second season with the Mississippi State women's basketball program. Reaves comes to State after spending two seasons as the head coach at Long Island University C.W. Post in Brookville, N.Y. While in Brookville, Reaves oversaw all aspects of the NCAA Division II basketball program. Under her guidance, C.W. Post had two consecutive winning seasons in 2007 and 2008, giving the Pioneers their first back-to-back winning seasons in 14 years. In her first season at C.W. Post, Reaves lead her team to the East Coast Conference Championship game, losing by one point to defending conference champions, New Haven. Last season, she led the squad to a third-place finish in the East Coast Conference.
Prior to her head coaching stint, Reaves spent three seasons as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at West Virginia University. While at WVU, Reaves helped recruit two top-20 recruiting classes signing Mountaineer standout Olayinka Sanni, who recently won a WNBA title with the Detroit Shock. She helped the Mountaineers to the Big East Conference Tournament finals in 2006, helped lead WVU to the WNIT finals in 2005 and was a part of back-to-back 20-win squads in 2004 and 2005. In 2004, Reaves and the Mountaineers won 21 games and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. While serving as recruiting coordinator, Reaves was instrumental in game scouting and was responsible for the development of the post players.
From 1995-1998, Reaves spent time as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Troy University in Troy, Ala. In her second season with the program, Reaves helped the Trojans claim the 1997 Mid Continent Conference Championship which was the first in school history. In that same season, the Trojans posted a 23-7 record and advanced to the NCAA Division I Tournament for the first time in school history.
Reaves graduated from the University of Alabama in 1995 after having a successful two years with the Crimson Tide. Reaves was a member of the 1994 Alabama final-four team that finished the season ranked third in the country.
Reaves spent her first two years of college in Niceville, Fla., at Okaloosa-Walton Community College, now Northwest Florida State College.
Reaves is a native of Murfreesboro, Tenn.
