Entering his third season on staff in 2024-25, Jimmy Yu was promoted to Assistant A.D. / Women's Basketball Operations on May 20 following two seasons as the program's Director of Operations.

Yu joined Purcell's in March of 2022 as the Director of Women's Basketball Operations. Yu came to Starkville after spending four seasons at Virginia. Starting in July of 2018, Yu was named the Assistant Director of Basketball Operations before being promoted to the Director of Operations during the 2020-21 season.

"Jimmy Yu has not only positively impacted our program, but this University and community from the moment he arrived in Starkville," said Purcell. "He's an invaluable part of our program and undoubtedly deserves this promotion. He's a tireless worker behind the scenes who strives to elevate all facets of our program. He puts others first and possesses a love for working with our student-athletes and this community. I'm thankful that he's a part of our staff and I know that he will continue to make our program better every day."

Yu coordinates and oversees all operational and administrative aspects within the program, which includes facilitating team, student-athlete and recruiting travel logistics, schedule management and maintaining campus relationships and booster engagement, in addition to supporting the staff in a multitude of other capacities. His principal responsibilities also encompass facility coordination, constructing and managing the annual budget, supervising manager and student staff and serving as an liaison to different athletic department personnel.

While at Virginia, Yu oversaw all operational and administrative aspects of the women’s basketball program. His duties included building and managing the annual budget, supervising office personnel and student-managers, coordinating team travel and practice schedules, managing the apparel budget.

Prior to joining the staff at Virginia, Yu spent the 2017-18 season working as the Video Coordinator and Assistant Director of Operations for the Wake Forest women’s basketball team.

Yu was the head student manager for the Louisville’s women’s basketball team for two years under head coach Jeff Walz. Yu helped facilitate their elite college level camp while assisting in the coordination of both official and unofficial visits for recruits. As he has done at every stop during his career, he assisted the operations staff by creating itineraries and securing reservations for flights and hotels.

Yu is a native of Midlothian, Virginia, and a graduate of the University of Louisville where he graduated cum laude in December of 2016 with a bachelor’s degree in Sport Administration.
