Mississippi State women's basketball head coach Nikki McCray-Penson announced the addition of Daniel Segal to her staff on Friday. Segal will serve as the team's video coordinator.
"I'm thrilled to add Daniel to my staff here at Mississippi State," McCray-Penson said. "He comes to Starkville from the WNBA's Indiana Fever, so adding his professional mindset to our team will be an advantage for us throughout the season. He has a unique skillset for analyzing video footage and creating detailed scouting reports, which is why I wanted to add him to my staff. He will be a big asset to our entire team, and I'm very glad to have him here now so we can get to work."
In his role as video coordinator, Segal will be responsible for the recording and breakdown of team practice footage and in-game video. He will analyze and distribute the film to the coaching staff and the student-athletes to further develop their skills on the court. Segal will also oversee video exchange for McCray-Penson's squad.
"I'm ecstatic to join the women's basketball staff here at Mississippi State and grateful that coach McCray gave me this opportunity," Segal said. "I've had the great fortune to work with some amazing people and teams, and those experiences have prepared me for this moment. Through the years, I have developed an understanding of what is necessary for modern basketball, and I believe I can bring a different perspective to the staff from an analytical standpoint."
Segal comes to Starkville following one season as a video assistant with the WNBA's Indiana Fever. While at the professional level, Segal helped create and interpret analytical assessments about Fever players, lineups, free agents and college prospects.
Segal earned his bachelor's degree in Management and Marketing from the University of Kentucky in 2019. After graduation, Segal spent the 2019-20 season with the University of Louisville's women's basketball program. He assisted with cutting film, creating trend reports and helped with pre and postgame scouting reports. Following the season, Segal began working with Global Sports Analytics. He scouted and evaluated top international NBA Draft prospects and helped create scouting reports for coaching staff in Germany, Belgium, and Spain.
