Entering her fourth season full-time with the Mississippi State women's basketball program in 2020-21, Abby Hunt brings years of unique experience to Nikki McCray-Penson's staff as the team’s Coordinator of On-Campus Recruiting and Digital Services.
Hunt coordinates all official and unofficial recruiting visits, oversees the execution of print and digital recruiting materials and assists the coaching staff in any other recruiting efforts that do not directly involve evaluating basketball talent.
She also manages the team’s social media accounts, @HailStateWBK, on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram; and to that role, she is no stranger.
Beginning upon her arrival to Mississippi State as a student in the spring of 2016, Hunt served as the secondary Sports Information Director for three seasons. In that position, she was the primary manager of those social media accounts, scheduled player interviews and contributed to each set of game notes and the annual media guide.
Hunt graduated from Mississippi State in December of 2017 with a degree in Kinesiology – Sports Studies with a concentration in Business. Following graduation, she stayed in her role with Athletic Communications throughout the duration of the 2017-18 season, in which the team played in its second national championship game.
Prior to enrolling at Mississippi State, Hunt completed her first two and a half years of college at the University of South Carolina.
A native of Tupelo, Mississippi, she was first given the keys to professional social media accounts at age 17 when she was the first social media manager for the Tupelo Convention and Visitors Bureau during her senior year at Tupelo High.
Hunt spent her childhood in Starkville as her father Todd was the Director of the Humphrey Coliseum and Athletic Concessions. Before Todd, her grandfather Gaddis held the same office at the Hump since the day the doors first opened.
While her coworkers tout successful collegiate basketball careers, Hunt reached the height of her playing days in the Starkville Upward Basketball League and called it quits after fifth grade. Her athletic career as a whole came to an end a year later when she shifted her extracurricular focus to visual and performing arts.
