No stranger to the Bulldog basketball family, Talvis Franklin begins his fourth season as Mississippi State's coordinator of men's basketball operations after serving the past five seasons as a student manager for MSU coach Rick Stansbury.
Along with continuing his role of overseeing the team's student managers and the maintenance of the Bulldogs' athletic equipment, Franklin also handles film exchange responsibilities as well as assisting with the club's travel arrangements.
As an integral member of Mississippi State's basketball program for the five previous seasons, Franklin was a part of the Bulldogs' 2003-04 SEC championship season, as well as being affiliated with SEC Western Division title teams in 2006-07 and 2007-08 and during the 2002-03 and 2003-04 campaigns. He also made three consecutive trips to the NCAA Tournament (2003-05) with the team, along with the run two years ago that ended with a setback to Washington in Portland, Org., followiwng the Bulldogs run to the SEC Tournament crown.
Outside of his duties, the Tupelo native has worked with Mississippi State's summer basketball camps for the past seven years. In addition, Franklin has coached summer league basketball and held individual youth workouts in his hometown of Plantersville for the past few years.
Franklin recently acquired his bachelor's degree in teaching/coaching from Mississippi State, and he is now pursuing a master's degree in education.
A 1992 graduate of Shannon High School as the class salutatorian, Franklin also participated in basketball and football during his prep playing days.
Franklin, 36, is the proud father of one son, Talvis, 18, and one daughter, Akase', 8.
