Jalen Courtney is in his third year at Mississippi State and his first as video coordinator following a collegiate career that saw him play one season at Morehead State after three years at LSU.
The Jackson, Miss., native joined Ben Howland's staff in 2015-16 as a graduate assistant, while being promoted to his new role this past summer.
Courtney came to MSU after being limited to just five games for the Eagles due to multiple knee surgeries. Despite the adversity he faced, he did score six points and collect seven rebounds.
In his three seasons at LSU, he appeared in 61 games, recording a career-best 14 points against Grambling as a sophomore. Against Houston Baptist as junior, he tallied a career-best seven rebounds.
His freshman year was cut short due to injuries, playing in just 15 games. As a sophomore, however, he appeared in 20 games en route to averaging 2.3 points. His junior year saw him average 2.1 points in 26 games.
Courtney, who earned his undergraduate degree in Communications and is pursuing a masters in Work Force Education Leadership, signed with LSU following a stellar prep career at Provine.
As a senior, he averaged 16 points and 11 rebounds en route to garnering all-state and all-metro accolades and was tabbed the Mississippi High School Athletic Association Scholar-Athlete of the year.
His career high 38 points and 20 rebounds came against Starkville High School as a senior.
A McDonald’s All-American nominee, he led the Rams to two 5A state titles and two runner-up finishes.
