John Haneline returns to Mississippi State in 2016 as a defensive quality control specialist. Haneline served as a graduate assistant for the Bulldogs during their historic 2014 season.Â
Haneline spent the 2015 season at the Colorado School of Mines, coaching linebackers and working with strength and conditioning. He also recruited Dallas, Southwest Colorado and Chicago during his stint.
In 2014, he worked as a graduate assistant on Dan Mullen’s staff, working closely with linebackers. After the departure of defensive coordinator Geoff Collins, Haneline served as the Bulldogs’ interim linebacker coach during the month of December and at the school’s first Orange Bowl appearance in 73 years. He worked with NFL linebacker Benardrick McKinney as well as standouts Beniquez Brown and Richie Brown.
Prior to his year in Starkville, Haneline was the defensive graduate assistant at the University of Toledo in 2013. He began his coaching career as a defensive assistant at Ohio Northern in 2012.
A 2009 graduate of Bowling Green in sociology, Haneline played linebacker for the Falcons from 2004-08. He was a starter in his final three seasons. The Cleveland, Ohio, native helped lead the squad to the 2007 MAC East Co-Championship and the 2004 GMAC Bowl title.
Haneline and Mullen first met in 2001. With Mullen as Bowling Green’s quarterback coach, the then-rising high school student attended the Falcons’ 7-on-7 camp before eventually joining the team.Â
